Physician Supervision of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

A question that we get frequent phone calls about is regarding physician supervision of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO). Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions . . .

Physician Supervision of HBO

To start, as per the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS), "physicians supervising HBO should be certified in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM), or the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM), or the American Osteopathic Committee of Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine (AOCUHM); or must have completed a minimum 40-hour-in-person training experience in a program approved by the American College of Hyperbaric Medicine (ACHM) or the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS)."

Wound Care Education Partners' 40-hour Introduction to Hyperbaric Medicine course is UHMS accredited and meets the above criteria. We invite you to participate in one of the many courses that we co-host with hospitals and clinics across the US and internationally. CLICK HERE for a list of upcoming courses.

Privileges

Privileges to practice in the hospital are granted to the physician by the hospital itself.

Training Guidelines

The recommended training guidelines for physician personnel in a hyperbaric environment are clearly outlined in the UHMS Guidelines for
